Brendan was born and raised nearby in Burnaby, B.C. where he played every sport offered to him growing up. His primary sports were soccer and lacrosse and he continues to stay involved with them today. As a young athlete, Brendan encountered his fair share of injuries himself and developed a strong relationship with his physiotherapist and an interest in pursuing physiotherapy as a future career.
After completing his study in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University, Brendan studied abroad in Australia at the University of Sydney. Upon completion of his Master of Physiotherapy in 2017, Brendan stayed in Australia and worked as a physiotherapist at a private practice focused on long term developmental conditions. This involved helping kids achieve their movement and activity based goals with fun and engaging physiotherapy sessions, but also working alongside adult clients with neurological diagnoses (e.g. multiple sclerosis, stroke, etc.) or other acute injuries (e.g. ligament tears, post surgery, etc.) in a more traditional physiotherapy setting. The balance between both paediatric and adult clients allowed Brendan to see individuals of a variety of ages and potential diagnoses (e.g. cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, global developmental delay, autism, etc.). Brendan developed a strong interest in a child’s gait and the ways to address common abnormal walking patterns like toe walking. This led him to taking a number of courses focused on these topics and his confidence in the area has grown significantly. Over time, Brendan has been able to incorporate the skills he learned with accessing and treating his paediatric clients and applied them with his adult clients.
Returning to his home country means that Brendan can bring all he learned overseas to help others here in Canada. Outside of the clinic, Brendan enjoys playing sports, reading a good book, and spending time with his young pup, Beau.
