This year, I’m taking my physiotherapy talents on the road to work with Rockdoc; an organization that provides medical coverage to large events such as races and music festivals.
The Vancouver Sun Run opened the 2013 season. I worked in the musculoskeletal area of the main medical tent, alongside the first aid, medical and emergent care specialities.
In the musculoskeletal area, our team of chiropractors and physiotherapists prepared for the day by familiarizing ourselves with the paperwork, exploring the supplies and going through relevant case scenarios. Then we waited…with anticipation…for our first patient to arrive. After our first admission, a steady stream of patients followed. The majority of the injuries were acute muscle strains, overuse syndromes and an ankle sprain.
For me, the highlight of the day was collaborating with people that are passionate and energetic. You could tell that everyone was pumped to be there. The end result was a one-stop medical shop, focused on providing superior customer service to all athletes in need. Amazing!
